Computer Law

Computers on the Job

What if I am working from home on my own computer?

The computer age, as never before, has enabled employees to work from home. Thanks to the marvels of technology, workers can use their home computers and be fully networked into their employers' office computer systems.

Those working at home, however, should know that while the employees are connected to the company's computer network, the employer can access records of the websites that its employee visit, just as if they were working in the office. Employers remain concerned about protecting proprietary information, preventing harassment, and ensuring that company time is devoted to company work. Breaching any of these employment policies remains cause for disciplinary action even if you are working from the comfort of your home office.
