What was the legal resolution of the Melissa case?

Judge Joseph A. Greenaway Jr. of the U.S. District Court for New Jersey sentenced Smith to twenty months in federal prison to be followed by one hundred hours of community service. Smith was also fined $5,000 and ordered not to be involved with computer networks, the Internet, or Internet bulletin boards during three years of supervised release unless authorized by the court.
