How do I protect my computer against viruses?
Don't open .EXE files or download files that you are not expecting to receive. Protect your computer with antivirus software. Many computers come with antivirus software installed. The software can also be purchased from a store or an online merchant. Many brands of antivirus software invite you to register with the company, which then may send you e-mails alerting you to downloadable updates from their websites or may simply send you regular updates that enable you to upgrade the software online to thwart the latest viruses, which are always becoming more sophisticated. Be sure to purchase good antivirus software, install it, and regularly check the publisher's website for updates and new virus definitions. Keep the software current, as it may not protect against newer viruses if you do not update it regularly.
In addition, services to screen e-mail for viruses are also available.
