What do I do if my computer has become infected?
The Federal Trade Commission advises that you should disconnect from the Internet immediately and scan your computer with up-to-date antivirus software. You should also try to figure out how your computer became infected and take steps to avoid a recurrence. For example, did you open an e-mail attachment or rely on out-of-date software? If you discover the source, you should notify the person who sent you the virus.
In addition, you should report the incident to your Internet service provider as well as the sender's provider, if you know who it is.
