Buying a New Car

What if I want to add something after I sign the car contract?

Ask the dealer to write a contract addendum (a supplement), or write it yourself. Both parties should sign it. Make sure that whoever signs for the seller has the legal power to do so. Mention the original contract in the addendum, state that everyone should consider the addendum an inseparable part of the original contract, and state that the addendum overrides any inconsistent terms in the two documents. This will help you avoid the parol evidence rule discussed above.
