To what standard of care will I be held if someone else is driving my car, and I am a passenger?

The law in some states will assume you still have "control" over the vehicle. Other states require the owner to take steps to stop the negligent driving as soon as the owner becomes aware of it. In other words, if you are the owner of a car, you can be liable for the way in which another person drives it.
