What happens if there is a break in service before pension benefits become vested?

A break in service occurs when employment is interrupted. If a break in service occurs before benefits become vested, the worker loses any entitlement to those benefits. When an employee works less than five hundred hours in a year for the employer, a break in service has occurred.
