How do I find a lawyer?

If you have a family lawyer, call him or her immediately. If your family lawyer does not do criminal work, he or she may be able to recommend another lawyer who does. If you cannot afford a lawyer, tell the police you wish to have a lawyer appointed on your behalf. A counsel for the defense--whether private, a public defender, or assigned--will be appointed on your behalf.
