What to Do if You Are Discriminated Against

What happens once I file a charge with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)?

The EEOC is required to contact the discriminating party and attempt conciliation between the parties. The agency also has the power to investigate charges and file a lawsuit to enforce your rights. However, the EEOC files lawsuits in only a small proportion of cases. It is important to realize that the EEOC does not make findings on your charge. Only a court can do that.
