What if I receive a notice from Social Security Administration (SSA) that I have been overpaid?

If you disagree that you were overpaid, make a written request for a reconsideration of your claim. If you cannot repay the amount, you can ask for a waiver within thirty days of notification of overpayment. You will be asked to fill out an Overpayment Recovery Questionnaire. You will need to show that the overpayment was not your fault, and that you are unable to repay the amount without hardship.
