Health and Long-Term Care Benefits

Medigap Insurance

Do I need any other insurance coverage besides Medicare?

Yes. Most older people need to purchase a supplemental, or Medigap, insurance policy to cover some of the costs not covered by Parts A and B. However, there are exceptions, explained in the following answers.

In addition, if you can afford it, you may also want to consider purchasing long-term care insurance, because Medicare and Medigap policies do not cover long-term care. Long-term care insurance is discussed in the next section, "Paying for Long-Term Care."
