The Rights of Older Americans

The Older Americans Act and Services

Could an area agency on aging help me find legal services I can afford?

Probably. Publicly funded legal services also are available through programs funded under the Older Americans Act. These programs have lawyers, paralegals, and advocates who specialize in the rights of older persons.

State and local bar associations also may have information about programs for older persons that provide referrals or legal services on a pro bono basis. Pro bono programs operate for the good of the public and do not charge lawyer's fees.
