Buying and Selling a Home

Selecting a Real Estate Agent to Sell Your Home

What is a listing agreement?

The listing agreement is a contract that, once signed, is binding between the seller and the listing real estate agency. Its provisions include the length of the listing period, the commission rate, the responsibilities of the firm and its agents, and who will pay for the cost of advertising and other costs associated with the home sale. One important term to look for is when the commission must be paid. As a seller, you would want to owe a commission only if the closing has occurred.
