Renting Residential Property

Ending the Landlord-Tenant Relationship

Venus was having problems with the heating in her apartment. She complained to her landlord, who promised to fix it, but three weeks later he still hadn't made repairs. Venus decided to stop paying rent until her landlord repaired the problem. Five weeks later, Venus went on holiday for a few days. When she returned, she found all of her possessions piled on the sidewalk outside her apartment, and the locks on her apartment had been changed. This was the first notice she'd had that she faced eviction for nonpayment of rent. Venus probably shouldn't have stopped paying rent, but her landlord should have taken some steps to notify her before he could legally evict her.
