Consumer Credit

Credit Records

Wilkins Micawber is denied credit based on a bad credit history. The creditor relied on a negative consumer report on him from a major credit bureau, or credit reporting agency. He requests a copy of the credit report from the credit bureau. Much to his dismay, the report contains items from another individual by the same name, includes information more than ten years old, and contains other inaccurate information. What can Mr. Micawber do to correct these mistakes on his credit report?

Fortunately, a federal law known as the Fair Credit Reporting Act is designed to protect consumers from inaccurate information in consumer reports. This section will reveal how.
