CHAPTER 1 - Exercising Your Rights in the Workplace

Traditionally, the law favored employers when it came to resolving employment disputes. Most people could be fired at whim, without cause or notice, and bosses had little fear of legal reprisal. Now, however, the law provides workers with more protection. Since more than 70 million Americans work without written contracts and basic job security, it is important to know your rights in all phases of the employment relationship-before being hired, while working for the company, and after you are fired-to take advantage of the many laws favoring employees.
