537. How to Read, Understand, and Follow Up on the Reconsideration Decision

The reconsideration decision will look similar to the initial decision. It states whether or not the claimant is disabled, and will briefly list the evidence considered in making the decision. If the claimant is found "disabled," go on to Chapters Six through Seven, for an explanation of how to work with SSA to get the claimant's benefits processed. If the claimant is found "not disabled," advocates should work with them to file a second appeal. This appeal is called a "Request for Hearing by Administrative Law Judge (ALJ)."
