2718. When can you be entitled to SVB payments for more than 1 month while you are in the United States?

Under special circumstances, we will consider you to be residing outside the United States even though you are in the United States for more than 1 full calendar month. For example:

  1. You came to the United States to visit and made an attempt to return to your home abroad, but had to remain in the United States for more than 1 full calendar month due to circumstances beyond your control. This could include such circumstances as sickness, a death in the family or a transportation strike.

    or

  2. You must remain in the United States for more than 1 full calendar month in order to attend a proceeding for the appeal of a Social Security Administration decision on a claim.

You may receive SVB payments for any month in which these special circumstances occur.
