D. Sexual Bias Discrimination

Although not recognized by federal law, some states and municipalities have passed laws that forbid employers from discriminating in all phases of the job on the basis of an individual's sexual preferences. A lesbian or homosexual faced with hostile conduct or denied employment opportunities should seek legal advice about relevant state and local ordinances and rulings. Lawyers representing gays and lesbians who practice in states where sexual bias discrimination statutes do not exist are suing employers and supervisors for invasion of privacy and other causes of action.
