L. Fired in Breach of Contract Rights

If you are fired in a manner inconsistent with or different from rights in a written contract or collective bargaining agreement (if you belong to a union), you may be entitled to damages. If a contract exists, examine it upon termination. The failure to give timely notice as required by a contract, or failure to follow the requirements set forth in a contract, may expose a company to a breach of contract claim. In some instances, it can even cause the agreement to be extended for an additional period.

Tip: All the preceding topics describe areas to help in detecting if you have been fired illegally. Armed with this knowledge, you can be in a better position of recognizing when you are being treated unfairly and knowing when to speak to a competent employment lawyer. Since the above topics are merely a summary of key areas the law protects, seek advice from a professional to explore all your rights and options whenever you have been fired from an important job.
