  • One out of every ten couples experiences infertility.

  • About 6.1 million Americans suffer from this condition.

  • About 2.1 million people are currently experiencing infertility, but only about 60,000 children are placed for adoption in the U.S. each year.

  • One-third of all infertility cases involve female infertility, one-third involve male infertility, and one-third result from either a combination or an unknown cause.

  • Less than half of the couples or individuals experiencing infertility seek medical advice.

  • Of those that seek medical advice, only a little more than half opt for further services.

  • Sixty-five percent of those who do pursue treatment succeed in having a baby.

  • Less than 2 percent of those who seek treatment employ high-tech procedures like in-vitro fertilization.

  • Although infertility treatments are often not covered by insurance, research indicates that providing more comprehensive coverage costs only about $1.71 per contract per year. That's only about 0.41 percent of the average total monthly family premium.
